The Hovden museum of iron production and the Viking Trail

This museum is built around a reconstructed Viking Age melting facility and shows how iron and charcoal were extracted during the Viking Age and the Middle Ages.

Through sound, light, smoke and scent effects, visitors will experience the atmosphere of the early Middle Ages, while a Viking tells the story in Norwegian, English or German. The presentation lasts approximately 15 minutes and is suitable for visitors of all ages.

You can also combine your visit with a walk along the Viking Trail, which starts at the outer end of the pier at Hegni.

The museum is self-service and free of charge.
Access codes are available from the Hovden Tourist Information, the Hovdestøylen Hotel, and from the kiosk at Hegni when open. The access code can also be found here: Hovden FAQ
