The shortest way from East to West
Suleskar Road is the shortest route between Oslo and Sandnes, a total of 425 km, and you should allow approximately 7 hours of driving time. If you drive via the E18 and E39, the distance is 535 km – that’s 110 km longer.
Whether Suleskar Road is the fastest route might be doubtful, you have to take it easy on the narrow road, but we dare say it’s the most beautiful and spectacular road!
The route has, among other things, been named one of Norway’s best motorcycle routes by Bike magazine.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW:
Closed in winter:
The road between Brokke and Suleskar is only open from May 21 to November 1. Exceptions may occur depending on weather and road conditions. Check road and traffic information online or call 175.
Narrow road:
The road standard is generally good, but the carriageway is narrow in places – some places single-lane, but with good visibility and many passing points. It is fine to drive a campervan – but, take it easy.
Sheeps in the mountains – often in the middle of the road:
Large numbers of sheeps graze in the mountains between Brokke and Suleskar from June through autumn. Be aware – sheep often rest at the roadside or run into the road. Slow down and drive past carefully. Do not stop or feed them. This can cause dangerous traffic situations.
Do not stop in blind spots or at passing places:
To avoid traffic hazards, only stop where it clearly does not obstruct traffic. At Håhelleren (by Roskreppfjorden), there is a large and well-equipped rest area. There is also a marked hiking trail here.
Animal collisions do happen. If you hit an animal, you are required to report it.
Compensation for injured or dead animals is covered by car insurance.
